Studio Project 3

A project on Urban Farming in Singapore.

Urban Heals is an illustrative publication that aims to promote, educate and encourage the locals about urban farming at home in conjunction with Singapore’s 30 by 30 initiative.

This 30 by 30 initiative aims to achieve 30% of locally produced nutritional needs by 2030, a goal set by the government to ensure better food security in Singapore.

Urban Heals’ concept focuses on 2 things: sustainable consumption and healing properties of homegrown crops. A factory system is designed for each of the crops in the publication to show some examples of meals/desserts/condiments etc. that can be made with these crops, as well as its healing and health benefits. These depict the sustainable consumption and healing properties of these crops respectively.

The following video shows a quick run-through of the publication

Building the Factories

Here, I made sure to include edibles that can be made from the featured crop (in this case above, it’s mint!). The featured foods are mint ice cream and mint tea. Then, I included a mint ‘heal’ which is the bottle of mint liquid to represent the healing properties of mint.

After designing the factory, I added colour and the properties that I wanted to share about the crop (in this case, mint!). The properties include how the featured crop can affect our body after consumption.

Lastly, I collated information about the featured crop (in this case, mint!) in the next spread for readers to learn more about it. It talks about how to grow the crop, its benefits, healing benefits and also some common uses of the crops for daily consumption.

A series of 3 posters was designed to promote the launch of Urban Heals

A website was also designed to promote and encourage pre-ordering of the publication. More information about the publication, 30 by 30 initiative and urban farming in Singapore can be found here on the website.
